Well all I have to say is thank the stars for Primark and my £4 rain mac. Someone... not sure who! failed to mention that it is now monsoon season in Singapore! No matter, at a balmy 28 degrees, its still warm and nice enough to walk around and explore... Just have to duck for cover every few hours.
So far, so good! After an awful flight over...stuck between 2 old ladies...one with a very large flatulance problem and another who wouldn't stop talking... i promptly plugged in trusty ipod and zoned out. Im still amazed at my uncanny ability to sleep almost anywhere... 8 hours later and more than half the flight complete... Blanch & Dorothy were out cold.
How come none told how fabulous the film transformers is...also, how hot the soldier guy is in it... I think he's dating Fergie from Black Eyed Peas.
On landing in the cleanest city in the world, A crazy taxi driver by the name of Tan Hock rnticed me into his vehicle by the rpomise of $30 ride to hotel in a limmo...oh youknow me can't resist a little luxury...so much fun pretending to be a celeb! All the bell boys ran up to the car to take my bags an help me check in.
The hotel is amazing, and I can't believe its so cheap as an add on to the flights. Definetly a must do! By this time sleep is taking over and my big white bed is calling my name.
Sunday evening I am picked up a my hotel by the tour guide... im starting to see a pattern with the people here... crazy, crazy and funny as hell. I am nicknamed Ms. Alisha (not for the first time) and have been taken under the wing of the guide. She resmebles a Chinese Dame Edna with big sparkly glasses... tells me how im going to love Singapore slings...and to watch our for hookers who will hate me becasue of my wonderous cleavage.
The tour takes us to a restaurnt fist called Hot Stones... anyone who has been to Benihana will get the idea... but you get a hot block each and cook your own meals in front of you... so much fun with the sauces and at least you can't blame anyone except yoursefl if you get food poisening!!! Met 3 girls from Adelaide over dinner who have been travelling Thailand and are on thier way home tomorrow. Also got chatting to a lovely older couple who seem to have been drunk from the time they got on the coach.
After dinner we are taken to Bugi Street ( pronounced Boogie...hehe) not really my cup of tea, but very interesting people watching... market is full of all sorts of food, clothes and jewellery but can be a bit intimidating by the stall sellers. Came across a lovely crystal stall and bought a lovely piece of Rose Quartz.
Then onto Raffles for a Singapore Sling... which by this time is much need. The jokes on the tour an wearing thin and my brain is in need of a distraction... alcohol seems to be the quikest and easiest fix. The Raffles Hotel is stunning, and the decorations for xmas are out of this world. Said sling arrives promptly and is gone as fast as you can say Cheers! They have some weird tradition that the popularity of the bar can be measured by the amount of peanut shells on the ground at the end of the night. Going against all that is ingrained in you mind from your parents... we sling our peanut shells on the floor... I feel so terrible...quite naughty...but do as the locals.
Head back to the hotel aorund 11.30pm, looking forward to tomorrow. A walking tour of the temples and then, hitting the spa for some R&R. Going to make full use of my lush surroundings before I have to start backpacking in Oz, will finish my evening with room service and a few movies.
